Shoshana Richter, Psy.D.

Psychotherapist

Dr. Shoshana Richter is a postdoctoral fellow specializing in treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults. She works with clients with a wide-range of presenting problems, including adjustment, mood, anxiety, personality, neurodevelopmental, and trauma disorders.

Dr. Richter has various clinical experiences within school systems as well as clinics, and hospitals providing her with an understanding of varying symptoms and severity. She completed her internship at Lincoln Hospital where she received training working with diverse populations through use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mentalization Based Treatment for Children (MBT-C), family and parent support models, and short-term crisis intervention. Dr. Richter ‘s treatment approach focuses on establishing a trusting relationship with clients in the therapeutic space while also keeping true to the evidence based practices of the mental health field.

In her practice, Dr. Richter provides evidenced-based interventions to help clients achieve their goals through individual, group, and family therapy. Dr. Richter believes healing is challenging for anyone when approached alone and recognizes the influence of the people and systems that surround each client. Thus, she treats clients while acknowledging the individual’s environment to address emotional and behavioral issues effectively. Dr. Richter aids clients in striking a balance between accepting what cannot be changed and intervening where possible. Through collaborative goal-setting, she addresses immediate issues while delving into their root causes.

Dr. Richter holds an undergraduate degree from Touro College in Honors Psychology. She received her Masters in school psychology en route to completing her psychology doctoral degree through the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University.
